Involvement of parents and other caregivers in the treatment of clients is an essential component of applied behavior analysis (ABA) services. In particular, training caregivers to implement selected treatment procedures with clients can enhance generalization and overall outcomes.
Additionally, some health plans require providers to include caregiver training goals and procedures in ABA treatment plans. It is therefore important for ABA providers who bill health plans to understand appropriate utilization of CPT code 97156, family adaptive behavior treatment guidance – the direct and indirect services encompassed in the code descriptor, how to select treatment targets for caregivers that are linked to medically necessary services for clients, and how to document and bill for the delivery of 97156 services.
Ongoing monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) is also essential to enable provider organizations to deliver family adaptive behavior treatment guidance with fidelity and integrity. This webinar will address those topics, with an emphasis on practical strategies that are consistent with best practices in ABA as well as CPT code reporting and documentation to safeguard for health plan audits.
