Abstract

Fisher Phillips attorneys Matthew Korn and Gregory Zerzan will discuss the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) and its implementing regulations.

Matthew and Gregory will discuss the law's history and background, its requirements and compliance dates, and how to determine whether your company is exempt from its reporting obligations (e.g., the Beneficial Ownership Information Report).

Additionally, Matthew and Gregory will discuss ongoing litigation and potential regulatory changes to the law in the coming year.

Presenters

Matthew Korn

Matthew Korn is a partner in the firm’s Columbia office, representing and advising employers in all areas of employment, labor, and health and safety law.

Matthew focuses his practice on defending employers across the country in complex class and collective action litigation, primarily involving wage and hour issues under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and state wage and hour laws, mass layoffs, and plant closings under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN), and background check documentation under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Matthew has substantial experience working with employers in many industries, including the hospitality and restaurant, construction and heavy equipment, mining, pharmaceutical, healthcare, and manufacturing industries.

While in law school, Matthew served as a judicial intern for the Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission and as Managing Editor of the Georgetown Journal on Poverty Law and Policy. As recognition for his exemplary work, Matthew was a recipient of the William J. Curtin Endowed Scholarship in Labor Relations.


Greg Zerzan

Greg helps businesses comply with federal, state, and local labor and employment laws by developing creative strategies for dealing with government-related challenges, including liaising with legislative and executive branch officials to help shape policy. He also assists in responding to government inquiries and preparing for hearings and appearances before Congress and federal agencies and in devising effective communications policies and strategies.

A skilled negotiator and problem-solver who has testified before Congress many times, Greg has extensive, first-hand-experience with the difficult issues businesses face and keenly appreciates how the interplay of the legal, legislative, and regulatory processes can impact a company’s bottom line.

Greg’s background also includes tenures counseling members of congressional committees in connection with weighty, high-profile public issues involving financial policy, energy, technology, and natural resources; managing government affairs and compliance matters for one of the world’s largest privately owned companies; and serving as Head of Global Public Policy and Counsel for the International Swaps and Derivatives Association.

He also has held a key policymaking position for the U.S. Department of the Treasury and served as a senior attorney for three separate United States House of Representatives committees with jurisdiction in the areas of financial services, consumer privacy, interstate commerce and agriculture. Most recently, Greg was General Counsel for a publicly traded energy company where he managed legal and corporate affairs.

Greg is a frequent contributor to business television programs and published in newspapers and magazines, including the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Forbes, and others.
