Abstract

This presentation will explore the essential role of CASP’s ABA Practice Guidelines for the Treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder, 3rd Edition in promoting evidence-based care. There will be a particular focus on which components of the guidelines may be most useful when appealing prior authorization denials.

Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the purpose and utility of the ABA Practice Guidelines in standardizing clinical interventions and improving patient outcomes. This presentation highlights how familiarity with these guidelines can empower clinicians to effectively advocate for increased access to quality services for individuals with ASD.

  2. Describe how knowledge of CASP’s ABA Practice Guidelines for the Treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder, 3rd edition, can be used to advocate for service access.

Presenters

Rebecca Thompson

Dr. Becky Thompson is the Senior Director for Advocacy at LEARN Behavioral, where she leads efforts across 17 states to improve access to ABA services for Medicaid recipients. She is a Clinical Psychologist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Doctoral level (BCBA-D) who has been working with individuals on the spectrum since 2000. Dr. Thompson has experience supervising behavioral treatment programs for young children with autism, conducting and supervising diagnostic services, developing trainings for clinicians at all levels, and mentoring students seeking a Master's Degree in Behavior Analysis. Dr. Thompson serves as an appointed member of the Wisconsin Governor's Autism Council, secretary for the Wisconsin Association for Behavior Analysis (WisABA), and President of the Wisconsin Autism Providers Association (WAPA).


Maria Caceres-Loveless

Maria Caceres-Loveless, M.A., BCBA, LBA, received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at California State University, Northridge, her Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology at California State University, Long Beach, and she completed her BCBA coursework through Florida Institute of Technology. Maria has worked in the field of ABA since 2005, mainly in
schools and private homes, and has been a Board Certified Behavior Analyst since 2012. Maria’s expertise resides in early intervention, teaching functional communication and acquisition skills, disseminating ABA through eRective and systematic supervision, and advocating for children with Autism and their families. Maria is the owner of Achieving Abilities, LLC, which is a small ABA company in Northern Utah. Additionally, she is currently serving as the Coalition of Utah ABA Providers’ President and the CASP Utah SAG Leader. When Maria isn’t working, she enjoys playing darts, going to karaoke, watching movies, playing with her three cute cats, and taking road trips anywhere!
