MassHealth Announces Accreditation Requirement for ABA Providers

Industry,

Yesterday, MassHealth made a big policy announcement regarding Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services. Within the next 2-3 years, managed care entities will be required to contract only with ABA providers who are accredited by a nationally recognized accreditation body.

The decision is designed to promote increased quality and efficiency of ABA services across the state.

However, it's important to note that not all accreditation bodies are created equally. Providers should choose carefully when pursuing accreditation.

Andi Waks—accreditation committee chair for the Autism Commission on Quality (ACQ)—said: “ACQ is a non-profit entity committed to transparency and avoiding financial conflicts of interestThis isn't a business for us—it’s a calling to improve quality. We encourage providers across Massachusetts to consider ACQ when complying with the new requirements.”
